National Awakening: a Critical View

17 06 2008

okay, lets start with talking about the euphoria in this country celebrating 100 years of national awakening. Government started to celebrate it with its national flag carrier, GIA (Garuda Indonesia Airlines). They put the icon of national awakening in the body of the plane. but mistake happened. they put the “Nation’s Awakening” rather than “National Awakening”, a blow for government.

then they fixed their mistake, put the right thing. they put altogether with the Visit Indonesia Year promotion. but what happen after that? disaster. flood is the most disastrous variable to both iconic promotion. the airport surrounded by flood, inaccessible.

at the peak of celebration, government use their most prestigious football stadium, Gelora Bung Karno, for ceremonial use. after that? an international friendly match with Bayern Muenchen held in a ‘kampung’ field quality. An extremely bad field.  so? another blow for nation’s image.

but the more important is what the celebration for? if there is still hunger. if there is not enough safe school building. should we spent our nation’s money into something merely ceremonial? is that proper? i dont think so..

goverment should forget about ceremonial think. its not an urgent to do. serving the people is what government should thinking about. decreasing the ceremonial budget post, and flow it into educational one. prioritizing! thats the key. Government should know what is the state top priority.
